THE DESIGN EXCHANGE:
Toronto's first Stock Exchange (TSE) building was designed by architects George and Moorehouse with associate S.H. Maw and completed in 1937. It combines streamlined modern, art deco and stripped classicism and in it’s time, was revered as an architectural and technological marvel; a "masterful expression of its time, place and function". After the TSE moved homes in 1983, the building was designated as a heritage property and fully restored to it’s original beauty. The renamed Design Exchange opened in 1994 and boasts incredible facilities to host any downtown function. When visitors enter the room they are taken aback by its grand scale with its gilded leaf molding and ceiling medallions, streamline modern detailing, the eight Charles Comfort murals that flank the east and west end of the space and of course it’s 6,000 square-foot trading floor, refurbished in beautiful hard wood and a dream come true for any avid swing dancer.
